Katie Orscher was born in Farmington, Connecticut and raised in Glastonbury, Connecticut.
Orscher was originally a single skater. She won the bronze medal in the Junior level at the 2000 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. She retired from singles in November 2000 to compete in pairs.
From 2000 through 2006, she competed with partner Garrett Lucash. The team was brought together because Garrett was searching for a new partner, and he remembered Katie. They are both clockwise-rotators. They trained in Simsbury, Connecticut.
In 2005, they won the gold medal at the 2005 U.S. Figure Skating Championships and then went on to win the bronze medal at the 2005 Four Continents Championships. At the 2005 World Figure Skating Championships, their placement combined with that of Rena Inoue & John Baldwin, earned the United States two entries to the 2006 Winter Olympics.
In the 2005-2006 season, Orscher broke her foot over the summer and they missed a great deal of training time. At the 2006 United States Figure Skating Championships, they won the short program, but dropped and placed 3rd overall. They missed making the Olympic team by 0.66 points.
Orscher and Lucash retired from competitive skating in 2006.[1]
